“The Nutcracker” Dances On

Missed the classic? There's still time.

People sometimes bemoan the sight of tinsel and ornaments arriving on store shelves in October -- September? -- but we can all agree that keeping the red-and-green-o-sity going past Dec. 25 is a positive thing.

At least for a few days. Some would have Christmas last through Feb. 14, but we're not going that far. Jan. 31 would be just fine.

The Los Angeles Ballet is presenting two post-Christmas Day performances of "The Nutcracker," both on Sunday, Dec. 26, both in Redondo Beach. Clara will be there, and various whimsical, hatted rodentia, and a certain wooden toy who has a propensity to grow and come to life.

Probably this should be a tradition with every holiday classic; just go a bit after the 25th, and give everyone a chance to breathe and not stress and not worry about the wrapping and the running-around. See? Jan. 31. A fine day to bring the yuletide to a close.

Note that there will be no performances on Saturday, Dec. 25.
