The Sound of Mother's Day

Is your #1 lady a cinema lover? Here are some holiday tips.

Was your first time out at the movies with your mom? Did you see "Bambi"? And then did you see "Herbie the Love Bug"? And then did she buy you popcorn? And was it the best day ever?

Fill in whatever film you saw for those two flicks and you have a fairly classic childhood experience. A lot of us grown-up film fanatics were introduced to the form by our mothers, and not merely as a way for her to get a little quiet for a couple of hours. (Okay, maybe a little.)

Which means that when it comes to Mother's Day we should repay the movie-sweet favor. And here's what's catching our eye: Three of the actors who played Von Trapp kids in "The Sound of Music" will be at the Egyptian for a screening and book signing on the afternoon of Sunday, May 13.

You know the film, you know the kids, your mom does, too, so here's the line-up: Charmian Carr -- she played Liesl -- plus Angela Cartwright (Brigitta, of course) and Kym Karath, who starred as little Gretl. No word if they're all showing in dirndls and dresses made from drapery but our heart can hope.

If mom isn't a "Music" lover but loves music, note the Aero's special Mother's Day film: "Yellow Submarine." C'mon; your mother totally crushed on Paul back in the day.

And here's two more fun movie/mom things, straight from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences: A look at stars and their mothers on the red carpet and a recommendation on 10 flicks to watch with your mom.
