The Whole World in Long Beach

The Travel and Adventure Show sets its luggage down in LBC.

There's something to be said for the convention that puts its money where its mouth is. Or, rather, does what is inside its very name and reason for being.

Take the Travel and Adventure Show, which will at the Long Beach Convention Center from Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15. This is a show that goes on the road. In short? It travels. The traveling travel convention. It also consistently rounds up major names in the get-and-go industry.

Like? Well, television globetrotteress Samantha Brown, for one; she'll be making an appearance. So will Pauline Frommer; if you've ever thought of going anywhere that's on a map, you likely recognize the expert's guide-famous surname. And the author behind "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" -- Patricia Schultz -- will be in the house.

And beyond the experts? Exhibitors. So many exhibitors. A few names: Club Med, Eyes on Africa, Zion National Park. Again, if it is on a map? Someone'll have your brochure, or, if not a brochure, a few words to give on the topic.

There's also a Fiery Foods Challenge going down. See you in Long Beach, Spicy Tequila Marinated Prawns.

Cost is $12 at the box office. NBC LA is a sponsor.
