Things Go Bump in the Night (and Day, Too)

Horror fans tend to favor the evening, when the shadows lengthen and floorboards creak and chains rattle -- or at least they do in the movies. But that whole sunlit stretch? Not so much. So when eerie-stuff enthusiasts show up for Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors, much of which takes place during the brighter part of the day, you know that what is happening is worth leaving the house for long before the murky mists of the gloaming roll in. Aka, daytime.

The famous weekend spectacular is ghoulish, it's gargantuan, it has got as many cool to-dos as a moldering mansion has cobwebby corners. A few of the highlights: actor Ron Perlman ("Hellboy"), "Evil Dead" genius Sam Raimi, visceral writer Clive Barker, and "Cabin Fever" actress Jordan Ladd are all on the big-name, come-and-chat roster. There are movie sneak peeks, panels galore, a vampire ball at the atmospheric Hotel Figueroa, a zombie walk around the LA Convention Center (we must see pictures of that), and vendors selling clothing, props, make-up, and other spooky doodads.

We are so putting on our velvet, lace-trimmed cape for this one. Or should we go zombie? Nope. Velvet cape. Now if only we can find an amulet by the weekend...
