Tinseltown Tiki Party

The Egyptian screens "Bird of Paradise"; ukuleles will sound, too.

Bird of Paradise

People start to wise up around the middle of July, usually.

They wise up to the fact that summer is no longer just beginning (and no, we're not talking about summer's official start; we're talking about the traditional summer season of June, July, and August, rather). In other words, if they're gonna do a road trip, they've got to get on it. If they're gonna hit a theme park, likewise.

And if a beachy party has not yet been attended, well. That is cause for real review. And on the weekend when traffic will be rather thorny, it is predicted, we like when the beachy party moves off the beach and into the city, as the Tiki Night at the Egyptian in Hollywood is doing. The date is Saturday, July 16.

Ukulele Davey will be ukulele-ing. King Kukulele and his Friki Tikis will be doing whatever a friki tiki might do (we think entertaining people in a delightful fashion). "Polynesian-style cocktails" will be on the pour, and fashions of a flowery, wrap-skirt sort will be on parade.

And capping the event? A screening of "Bird of Paradise" at 7:30 p.m. (there will also be some tiki-ish clips shown ahead of the flick).

Beach meets Boulevard. That does seem like high summer to us. It won't last long, so love on the ukulele now.
