Today in Restaurant Week: Valentino

See, there are some lovebirds among us who have to celebrate Valentine's Day on the 14th of February. Not a minute before, not an hour after, no rain checks, no early celebrations. But not us. We'll move our holidays around with abandon, especially when we see that Restaurant Week is still going on, and that Valentino, which is famous and famously romantic, is on the impressive list of participating eateries.

So here's what we'd say to our special someone. Special Someone, we realize times are tight, but V Day is next week, and we should really do something a bit fancy to acknowledge Love's Birthday. Valentino, which serves Italian food that regularly wins high honors not only in Los Angeles but from critics and eaters around the globe, is just the slide-closer spot to celebrate l'amour in (even the eatery's name makes us thing of that heart-filled holiday).

Special Someone, let's do an *early* Valentine's date at Valentino -- before Restaurant Week wraps on Friday, February 6 -- and we'll enjoy a special menu for a most excellent price ($44 dinner). Choices include Ligurian-style veal casserole, la salumeria (mmm, salame calabrese and olives), and almond panna cotta, just to name a few of the luscious dishes we can choose from.

Then we'd send our Special Someone the whole list and let their eyes grow wide with hungry interest. (Some items may be added during the week; see site for details.)

If you don't make it before Restaurant Week wraps, Valentino is Valentine-y any day of the year. And we can all do with a little romance, February or not. Did we say a little? We meant lots.
