Jewelry designer Eddie Borgo has built an enviable fashion reputation on precious metal pieces with an edge, and now his body of work has earned him a coveted nomination for a CFDA Award (to be announced next Monday).
While we’re always intrigued by what's coming up next from Borgo -- from medieval-styled hinged metal rings sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, to upcoming capsule pieces for J. Crew -- we were equally impressed by how educated the designer seems to be about his customer base.
There’s a method to Borgo’s luxe metal madness: According to the designer, the best-selling items from each season's collection are incorporated into an ever-growing “Classics Collection” -- a spread of looks from cone studded earings ($150) to pyramid-topped cuff bracelets ($440) -- and brought back season after season. These, the designer explains, in effect become the label's "core business."
