Southern California Gas Company said they are committed to resolving a gas leak situation in Camarillo after an exclusive NBC LA Investigation brought to light concerns of more than 40 homeowners last month.
The Gas Company has been venting pockets of residual natural gas from underneath public streets after a gas leak erupted on the street outside of Connie and Phillip Hall’s Camarillo home last October. The utility company repaired the gas leak, but the Halls say they have been dealing with gas leaking in and around their house.
The Gas Company maintains they have not been able to find any natural gas at a combustible level above the ground.
"I still think there’s an active leak," said Philip Hall. "They also said there was no methane but they’re here pumping gas from a place they said was never there?"
The Gas Company confirms there is methane in the street. But the Halls say it is in their home as well and they have the test results from a company they hired.
"These are the parts per million," said Phillip Hall referring to the test results. "And as you can see at 50-thousand it's explosive…there's 87-thousand on this one right here, 60-thousand here, 45,000 here."
Once the Hall’s saw those numbers they said they immediately moved out. The couple has evacuated from their home and is now staying with nearby family.
"We’re out of the house until we can get better answers," Connie Hall said.
As a result of NBC LA's story, the Gas Company has replaced 1700 feet of gas-pipes in the Camarillo neighborhood.
The Gas Company says they are determined to resolve the situation and safety is their priority.
It is yet to be determined whether or not the Hall’s will get answers from a town hall meeting scheduled for Monday night at the Camarillo Library. SoCal Gas representatives will be there to answer any questions about the methane as well as any concerns about the gas leak and how the pipes are going to be replaced.
The Hall’s said they hired an attorney to help them get resolution with their home, which they claim is uninhabitable.
