Travel to Thailand without leaving Los Angeles.

Thousands will be taking in the sights, sounds, smells...and water of Thailand without leaving Los Angeles. On April 5, Songkran, Thailand’s traditional New Year’s festival will take over Hollywood Boulevard. Songkran is also known as the “Water Festival” and is a time of joyous cleansing and purification.

The festival will feature a Thai water blessing ceremony and “wet zones” where the traditional practice of splashing perfumed water on family and friends will take place. This often escalates to playful water fights and is a lively and fun part of the Songkran experience.

The event features hundreds of booths designed to stimulate the five senses. Popular restaurants including Jitlada, named the best Thai food in the LA Times and LA Weekly, will be preparing fresh cuisine.

Along with colorful Thai costumes and classical dancing, several events are planned including the second international curry festival in California; the third annual Miss Thai New Year USA contest; live music; Muay Thai boxing demonstrations; and even a procession of Thai Buddhist monks. Vendors will feature one-of-a-kind arts and crafts more likely to be found in the open-air street markets of Thailand.

The event begins Sunday, April 5 at 8 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Lunch served in VIP area beginning at 11 am.
