Life is very much about second and third and sixth and seventeenth acts, but probably nowhere more so than the world of the arts, which are forever reinventing and reinvigorating and pushing envelopes.
So when a longstanding performing arts program decides to change its name just in time for its 75th birthday? No biggie, right? Plenty of plays and singers and performance artists evolve and change over time, too.
Which is the case with UCLA Live. The popular UCLA concert/performance/dance/culture series recently announced it would be now known as CAP UCLA, short for Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA.
Say it with us: CAP UCLA. CAP UCLA. Committed it to memory? Good.
CAP UCLA announced its upcoming 2012-2013 season on Wednesday, May 23, and the slate is looking plenty UCLA Live-y. That's a compliment, of course; just because a moniker evolves doesn't mean the quality should change.
And ahead for the UCLA performing arts institution's big 75th season? Well, we're very much looking forward to the Bebel Gilberto and Forro in the Dark show on Sept. 28. And, yep, longtime fave David Sedaris will be back at Royce Hall on May 1, 2013. We'll also make the uncontroversial guess that the Dec. 21 and 22 Rufus and Martha Wainwright holiday shows'll be a mite popular. Full name? "Christmas 101: Rufus and Martha Wainwright Family and Friends' Holiday Extravaganza Hits the Highway."
For tickets and to eye the whole slate head for the CAP UCLA page. We weren't even tempted to type "UCLA Live" there. See? A new chapter in a long life isn't so hard to start after all.
