Wait, Step Right, Hip Thrust Left? Learn the Hustle

Of the many illustrious courses challenging the mind and even the reaches of the known universe that Caltech has offered over the years, the one we're totally positive we could ace in an evening is the Beginner Hustle Dance Class, sponsored by the Caltech Ballroom Dance Club.

Well, maybe we shouldn't get so cocky; the 1970s-era dance that set off a craze is a bit trickier than it looks, with a few basic moves that require a crack timing and serious rhythm. So if, like us, you paused a moment and contemplated if the Hustle requires its own class, rest assured it does. Sure, it's got disco written all over it, but that doesn't mean that you can let it all hang out and do what you will. Au contraire. It's a very disciplined dance.

Actually, we couldn't think of a better week to learn the legendary moves. Our (nefarious?) plan is to buy the famous Van McCoy song that went hand-in-hand with the club phenomenon, and then blast it after the last of the marshmallowed sweet potatoes have been scooped out of the bowl on Thursday. Everyone'll have to rise from the Thanksgiving table and join, en masse, in a little Turkey Day Hustling around the dining room. The family that Hustles together, stays together? Isn't that how the old chestnut goes? Do do do do do do dooo...
