It is a rare and lovely thing for a beautiful spot to remind some of a special restaurant nearby, and vice versa.
Nepenthe and Big Sur are, in many minds, linked. Big Sur, of course, predates Nepenthe by many, many eons, but the view-blessed eatery is a Central Coast legend and forever a part of the wild shores of that stretch of our state.
We're thinking of the Ambrosia Burger, with all that mayo-marvelous Ambrosia Sauce.
Romney Steele, a member of the family behind the restaurant, will be signing "My Nepenthe: Musings on Food, Family, Big Sur and beyond" at Book Soup on December 1.
But even if you can't make the event, consider ordering, for the chef in your life, the meal-laden memoir/love letter. A love letter scented with Ambrosia Sauce, at least in our minds.
