Weekend: CicLAvia Takes a Fresh Route

The free, community-sweet bike gathering makes for new frontiers.

CICLAVIA: While this go-around for one of our city's biggest free bike rolls had some new stuff thrown into the mix -- new byways incorporated, including rolls by Exposition Park and Chinatown, as well as more Figueroa -- and was moved due to Endeavour heading through town, one thing remains: People love it. It's got loads of side things to stop and check out, it is well-attended, and if you don't have a bike? Roller skate, or walk down and check out the action. Sunday, Oct. 7

EAGLE ROCK MUSIC FESTIVAL: Has the word "cred" lost its cred from overuse? We hope not, because we'd like to hang it on the shingle of this particular sound spectacular. It is nine hours long, so you know you're going to get a bevy of bands, some you likely know, some you don't, some you probably live next door to, some who might be super famous one day. It's an easy, indie day, with multiple stages and a suggestion donation of ten bucks. "Suggested donation"=cred, is all we're saying. Saturday, Oct. 6

CALIFORNIA AVOCADO FESTIVAL: We only ask three things during this three-day guac-a-party in Carpinteria. One? We hug somebody wearing a giant green oval-shaped suit. Two? We eat something made with an avocado that's a bit surprising; avocado gelato? Plus that's fun to say. And three? We soak up some soft fall sun and sea breezes (sorry, make that *ocean* breezes; the Pacific's just a few blocks away from the bash). Friday, Oct. 5-Sunday, Oct. 7

ORANGE COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW: There's going to be the standing around and ogling and discussing of transmissions and such. But there are test drives here and there, too -- cool -- and a fleet of exotic vehicles on display. You like Ferrari, Bentley, and Maserati? Get to the Anaheim Convention Center. The oohing/aahing/wishing is on through Sunday, Oct. 7.

VEUVE CLICQUOT POLO CLASSIC: Many people know that Will Rogers State Park is a pretty place for a tree-close stroll; fewer, however, know about its polo history -- a polo field was built there in 1926 -- or that it hosts major events such as this. Fancy hats will be worn, bubbly will be sipped, and the sport of kings will ride in Pacific Palisades. Saturday, Oct. 6
