Weekend: Fiesta Broadway

The largest Cinco celebration in the nation dances downtown.

FIESTA BROADWAY: This annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, which is set for Sunday, April 29, is called the largest Cinco celebration in the nation. You don't have to look far for proof of that big billing; the music-filled party spreads out and fills up over twelve full downtown blocks. Performers are still to be announced, so watch this space.

GRILLED CHEESE INVITATIONAL: The four categories of this melty competition are nearly as colorful as the gregarious cooks who show up to compete; Kama Sutra and Love, American Style are just two of the names. Sweet sangwiches, as well as the straight-up orange cheese classics, will go buttery at the Rose Bowl. Get tickets now for the Saturday, April 28 griller.

DOO DAH PARADE: Southern California's largest, let-it-all-hang-out-iest procession will again take to Colorado in East Pas to delight and perhaps lightly offend onlookers. We don't say that last thing in jest; it is a merry march that is committed to free expression and a do-your-own-thing vibe. Be prepared for a lot of wonderfulness, is what we're saying, and a possible wave from new Queen Patrizzi Intergarlicta. Saturday, April 28

SUPER PET ADOPTION: The Best Friends-backed two-day pet adoption fair at the La Brea Tar Pits is one of the biggest find-these-cuties-a-home events on the calendar, hands -- paws? -- down. You'll meet all sorts of cats and dogs and critters during the day, and enjoy some entertainment, too. Us? We like to hobnob with the sweet senior animals. Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29

FESTIVALS X TWO: Brevity, comedy, soul of wit, et cetera. Think funny things need to be funny and then get the heck out? Then get to the LA Comedy Shorts Festival downtown; it is on through Sunday, April 29. Or perhaps you like to attend a prestigious film festival that's in one of the toniest burgs on this coast? Then get to Newport Beach for its eponymous film fest; May 3 is the closing date.
