Weekend: Fiesta Hermosa

The beach-close tradition is setting up the booths and bites.

FIESTA HERMOSA: When people in other cities wonder how we get summer going here in Los Angeles, they likely imagine a large, beach-close arts and crafts festival, and food booths galore, and happy, shoulder-baring people walking the pier. And they'd be completely right. The Hermosa Beach tradition sets up shop for three days from Saturday, May 28 through Monday, May 30.

JAZZREGGAE FESTIVAL: We've always liked that this venerable, UCLA-based sound bash happens on the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend. We also like that one day is broken down for the jams -- that's May 29 this year, and Lupe Fiasco headlines -- and that it is all about reggae on Monday (Steel Pulse is the main act). And one more thing to give it up for? It's celebrating 25 years in 2011.

OUTDOOR CINEMA FOOD FEST: The summertime tradition does involve cinema and food. Boy heck does it, and by "boy heck" we mean that several food trucks gather near the largest outdoor screen in the west. First movie up? "There's Something About Mary." Opening night happens at LA State Historic Park on Saturday, May 28.

CITY OF ANGELS WINE FEST: Zucca Ristorante, Kendall's Brasserie, Conway Family Vineyards, and Hunt Cellars are just a few of the eateries and wineries set to show at this afternoon-long Music Center Plaza party. The date's Monday, May 30, and you can by a ticket just for food, or one that'll let you sip some vino, too. Given the location, you won't be surprised to learn that there will indeed be music to sup/sip by.

HITCHCOCK x 2: Not *every* screen in Los Angeles will be showing the films of a certain puckish director, but it may seem like it. Multiple gems will be screen at both The Egyptian and Cinespia over the long weekend. And will "Vertigo" be shown at both places? We wouldn't have asked in that sassy way if the answer was anything but yes indeedy.
