ORIGINAL REN FAIRE: It's weekend #1 for the Renaissance Faire; well, weekend #1 for 2011. Ren Faire is well-established 'round these glades and glens, and has been for lo these many years. Why? Turkey legs, jousts, artisans artisaning, madrigal singers, and such. It's galloping weekends in Irwindale through May 22.
CICLAVIA: Get on your two-wheeler and pedal down W. 7th and nearby streets, sans cars and trucks and various vehicles. You're also free to walk the CicLAvia route, or tricycle it, or soak up the local restaurants and art doings along the way. It's happening on Sunday, April 10, it is free, and you can get a sneak peek of the route, courtesy of Fritz's HelmetCam.
BUTTERFLY PAVILION: Put several exquisite butterflies and moths in a good-sized, plant-filled, well-covered area outside the Natural History Museum, and then open it for the warm weather months, then invite people pay a reasonable admission and step inside. Result? Wonderment, education, potential butterfly-arm landings. Opens Sunday, April 10, closes Monday, Sept. 5.
LOS ANGELES AVOCADO TAKEDOWN: If you really like guacamole, and you're not of the camp that thinks the classic tomato-'cado-salt-lime mixture should ever be tweaked, and you're free on Sunday, April 10, and you're in the Bootleg Theatre area, and you have ten bucks, then. Then you know what to do.
20-MULE TEAM RIDE: Whether you're a scholar of all things West or not, the chance to ride with a 20-mule team doesn't come along every day, or even every month. There's a whole stagecoach weekend going down around Santa Ynez, and rides are $25 for the general public. Giddy up.
MS Walk: Robert Kovacik will join in the fun at the University of California, Irvine on Saturday. The 5K walks include a festival-like event, complete with food and entertainment.
