Weekend: LA Auto Show, Jingle Ball

Music, wheels, early holiday fun. Break out the holly.

GREATER LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW: Like many people, we like the big reveal, when the satiny cover gets pulled off a glinty, vroom-vroom work of art and everyone applauds. But second to the big reveals is the general walking around and looking. Car buffs, you'll make time during the December 4th-13th run, we hope. At Los Angeles Convention Center.

KISS-FM JINGLE BALL: Her name was just read, over and over, at the GRAMMY nominations podium; now Taylor Swift heads up the Saturday, December 5th concert at the Nokia Theatre. Also singing a few hits and/or songs of the season: Keri Hilson, 3OH!3, Ting Tings.

LOS ANGELES MASTER CHORALE: Thrilling to a rousing carol sung by people who work with their voice, a lot, inside Walt Disney Concert Hall has become, in a handful of years, a cherished local tradition. Cherished. We do believe this is the first of the holiday concerts at the landmark; it is a 2PM matinee on Saturday, December 5th, so you can make it even if you have plans that night. In fact, you may be going to see Handel's Messiah at Royce Hall.

DERBY DOLLS SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS: Doubtful, very doubtful, that any of these rough 'n tumble athletes will be wearing holly in their hair or carrying sleigh bells. Maybe if the sleigh bells were wrapped tightly around a bulging upper arm muscle. The year-ender bash-up is on Saturday, December 5th at the Doll Factory. The Swarm and Tough Cookies skate.

"IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" SCREENING: It's a wonderful location, too: Million Dollar Theatre, right in the heart of Broadway. LA Conservancy is the host, it is a matinee on Sunday, December 6th, it's $10 for adults, less for kids, and everyone should see this film every year. C'mon, the staircase knob? The pool scene? Welling up.
