Weekend: Mardi Gras at Farmers Market

Beads and horns summon the Big Easy.

MARDI GRAS TIME: Rajun Cajun Karaoke kicks off the Original Farmers Market party on Friday, March 4; marimba, zydeco, and a Mutti Gras pet parade are some of the March 5 and 6 highlights (best check the schedule for exact wheres/whens). The party continues on Fat Tuesday, March 8. Ready to reach for some beads?

TRUCKIT FEST: It's the splashy Union Station debut for the monthly food-truck-a-thon meets local-artisan-craft-booth-shopping. Some 40 food trucks and 200 LA-area artists will be on the historic grounds. Favorite part? A VIP option gets you entry into that tile-laden, usually do-not-enter Fred Harvey room. You know the one, station lovers. Sunday, March 6

DANA POINT WHALE FESTIVAL: The two-weekend celebration isn't just about bundling up and boating out on the Pacific; there are parades, there are art shows, there are car shows, there is a local restaurant week. Weekend #1 is March 5 and 6; the Festival of Whales Parade is on Saturday.

FIRST FRIDAYS: Locust biomimicry meets DJ-based get-downery in the regal halls of the Natural History Museum. Who are your favorite diorama stars? We hate to choose, but the pronghorn antelope are way up there for us. Do you pronghorn, too? Friday, March 4

HANDSOME VAMPIRES: What were the odds? The PaleyFest is featuring the cast of "True Blood" on Saturday, March 5 at the Saban; the Creation Entertainment "Twilight" convention is happening at the LAX Marriott. Maybe there's a way for fans of both to meet in the middle. Culver City? Like, Father's Office? Super burgers. Just a thought.
