YO GABBA GABBA! LIVE! Yep, Brad Pitt just went as DJ Lance for Halloween. And every cool and interesting star and musician is lining up to appear on the Nick Jr. hit, including Devo-er Mark Mothersbaugh. Grown-ups love it, hipsters love it, little kids love it, and Gabba's doing four shows over two days -- Saturday, November 14th and Sunday, November 15th -- at the Shrine.
HIP HOP CLASSIC 5K WALK/RUN: Music and moving come together on lovely autumn Saturday morning at the Rose Bowl. Date's November 14th, time is 9AM. If you still have the vigor come Sunday, the Cedars-Sinai Run for Her, which supports ovarian cancer research, steps off at Pan Pacific Park. Two walks, two days, a gorgeous fall weekend? Done.
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS: You might be the most leading-edge parent in town if you do both Yo Gabba Gabba and the They Might Be Giants Family Show in the same weekend. The two Johns are making for Royce Hall on the afternoon of Saturday, November 14th to sing wry songs directed at the younger set. If you're a way-past-elementary-school fan, the duo's doing a nighttime, adult show that evening.
JENNY LEWIS, GILLIAN WELCH, AND MORGAN NAGLER: The WTF Festival, in support of the Actors' Gang, keeps truckin' truckin' truckin' along with some stellar shows. Like this one. Saturday, November 14th. Another November 14th show we would most like to see is Ray Davies with the Vox Society Choir at the Orpheum. Come dancing, indeed.
"RE-ANIMATOR" AT MIDNIGHT: The New Beverly, in partnership with Shock Till You Drop, is not merely screening one of the creepiest films of the horror canon at midnight on Saturday, November 14th. They're also hosting star Jeffrey Combs and Stuart Gordon for a bit of chitchat. Perhaps you saw the Poe show at the Steve Allen with Mr. Combs, directed by Mr. Gordon? You'll want to be at the New Bev.
