We're Saying “Goddag” to Aebleskivers, Meatballs

There was a weekend, not long ago, when we got in the car and made for Solvang with one word on our mind: aebleskiver. We're not alone in our devotion to those luscious, doughy orbs of pastry-based goodness, nor in our adoration of the Swedish meatball, picturesque maypoles, historic recreations, and a rousing game of croquet.

And while we're always ready to zoom to Solvang for a quick jaunt, our jaunt over the weekend of April 18th-19th will likely be to Thousand Oaks for the 2009 Scandinavian Festival. Like all great cultural to-dos, attendees will be able to get involved (rather than merely watching); Kubb, which is described as a horseshoes-like game, will be taught, costumed revelers will be dancing and making merry, and there's a Viking village to wander. Oh yes, and those very same Kubb-playing attendees should plan on tasting foods like Swedish pancakes and meatballs and, of course, aebleskiver; there will be numerous vendors on hand selling sweet and savory bites.
