Westfield Century City Update 2: We're monitoring the City Planning…

We're monitoring the City Planning Commission hearing on Westfield's Century City mixed-use mega development. No decision yet. Testimony continues. Westfield announced that the project will generate $17 million a year in tax revenue, 4,000 permanent jobs and 10,000 temporary jobs, and will contribute $1 per square foot of new floor area to the Mayor's affordable housing fund. An architect formerly with Welton Becket Architects stated that if Welton Becket were alive today, he would support the project even though his building 1801 Avenue of the Stars will be demolished. Opponents of the project have called for more parking and better traffic mitigations. One woman cried about her elderly neighbors who couldn't show up. The Planning Commissioners are now peppering Westfield with questions. Correction: The project will generate 4,000 permanent new jobs, not 400. Corrected above.
