What You're Doing Tonight: April 23rd

THE MYSTERY OF SAKE: We've said it before: few things in life can surpass a good tasting, be it wine, beer, French fries, condiments, anything. But when it comes to sake, a libation, we'd wager, that remains mostly unknown and/or untried by many people (including ourselves), a tasting is not only delightful but highly educational. If you've sipped the celebrated spirit at a sushi bar and thought it was delicious but you needed more details, this night, which benefits the Little Tokyo Service Center, is the moment you've longed for. Japan Bistro, Empress Pavilion, Feast from the East, and Urth Caffe are just a few of the names behind the beverages and bites. Thursday, April 23, 7-9:30PM. $70 door. California Science Center, 700 State Drive, Los Angeles

ALSO ON THURSDAY, APRIL 23: It's big news, and even bigger news if you're a Depeche Mode devotee: Hollywood Boulevard, or a goodly chunk of it anyway, will be shut down as the iconic band plays a special (and free) gig. And "Fringe" star Joshua Jackson and creator J.J. Abrams get mic'd at the Cinerama Dome, part of PaleyFest '09.
