WRITER'S BLOC WITH CAROL LEIFER: Comedian, writer, wit, and well-known animal advocate Carol Leifer is just about as famous as the fictional character she is most often associated with, Elaine Benes. Elaine Benes, of course, was the "Seinfeld" character played with zing by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but Leifer, who wrote for the show, was seen as something of a real-life Benes. We could analyze, "Seinfeld"-style, about the fact that the fictional Elaine is slightly more known than the actual Carol, but we get the sense that that probably amuses the comedian no end. She's hilarious, a good sport, and great live. Plus she has a new book -- "When You Lie About Your Age, the Terrorists Win" -- and she's in conversation with Garry Shandling. Garry Shandling, of course, is much associated with the fictional Larry Sanders, which, in the end, leads us to believe this will be one colorful conversation.
