What's Up with the Farmer's Kitchen?

Long-anticipated teaching restaurant teases with (another) open.

For what seems like years that "Coming Soon" sign has been taunting and tempting devotees of the Hollywood Farmer's Market.
The little corner spot in the back of Sunset + Vine, just at the mouth of the Farmer's Market, always looks busily in-progress. Drop cloths, paint buckets, and a smattering of chairs all hold the promise of the planned retail and teaching kitchen coming to fruition. Every week people pass by with their bags of berries and tomatoes, hoping to see signs of new life.

April 2007 was the original open date for the Farmer's Kitchen, where market vendors could prep their foods, and a cafe would serve take-out and dine-in delicacies. First it was electrical issues that caused the delays. Now it's a matter of gathering construction permits. Judging by the website, money may be the real culprit.

Now it looks like this winter is the new plan. We're hoping the benefit dinner Hungry Cat is holding for SEE-LA, the Kitchen's organizers, is a good sign it might finally happen. For now we'll just wistfully walk by on our way to market, dreaming of all the missed meals we'll make up for when Farmer's Kitchen comes to pass.
