Why Helloooo, Free! Target Holiday Monday at LACMA

As of a couple of months ago, we decided our favorite words went from being "obstreperous" and "chardonnay" to the word "free" for all the obvious reasons. When we see "free" -- like we saw during a recent visit to Los Angeles County Museum of Art, on the big, eye-catching Target Free Holiday Mondays banner -- we take note, call our friends, do a small dance, chortle semi-maniacally.

Like the word "free" like we do? Curiosity sufficiently piqued? Here's the stow-that-wallet deal: you get in free at LACMA on Monday, January 19 (and a host of holiday Mondays ahead; check the museum site for full details). Period. And after you get in free, you go see all the amazing things this treasure of a cultural institution offers. We like the made-for-kings furniture, the zazzy photos, the people watching. The Vanity Fair exhibition, still on, has some real wow-inspiring image (including a nude, positively glowing Julianne Moore in "odalisque" repose, and an entertaining video showing how an Annie Leibovitz/George Clooney session came together).

What you'll pay for: parking. And we do love a good museum cafe, the fancy tarts and gourmet saladry. Plus, the LACMA museum store? Not only browse-able, but brimming with small, gift-y delights. We always buy kid stuff for the grown-ups we know (because it makes us laugh, so why not?).
