Wine Riot in Santa Monica

There are several firsts surrounding the sip spectacular.

First things first: Let's just get all the "firsts" surrounding Wine Riot out of the way, pronto.

The grand tasting, which is lining up the stemmy glasses at Santa Monica Place on Friday night, March 25 and Saturday, March 26, will be the first Wine Riot in Los Angeles (it has rolled in Boston before, we'll note, but our city is the first road trip stop for the event).

It's also the first time the fourth floor of the recently gussied Santa Monica Place will be put to use. Will someone take a bottle of Champagne to a wall to christen the space? Well. If so, best check with management first, before the swinging of sparkling wine gets a-going.

Those pair of firsts certainly suit an event that bills itself as a "tech savvy wine and food tasting experience." Translation? This won't be a quiet, fusty, taste-and-don't-talk situation. DJs, a photo booth, and a cameo by CoolHaus and other au courant food vendors is the order of the day(s).

Also the order of the day(s)? The 250+ wines from all over, and seminars like pairing vino with takeout. (No, it isn't just whatever is chilled, although we suspect that's how a lot of people roll.)

Tickets range from $50-$60, and you'll purchase for one of three sessons.
