Centennial of Naval Aviation

100 YEARS OF FLIGHT: What a year for those who are enamored of flying machines and the history of flying machines (those two interests tend to go hand-in-hand, we find). That tour of the campus where the Howard Hughes-envisioned Spruce Goose is just ahead. And now, dozens upon dozens of planes, some from the pre-World War I era, will be taking to the San Diego skies to celebrate the Centennial of Naval Aviation.

SATURDAY, FEB. 12: There's a full program planned, but bet the flights over the bay near Coronado Island will be the everyone-look-up draw. It isn't every day, or even ever, that one sees planes representing several decades flying, one after the other. Get details, sky-watchers.

THAT PHOTO: Above. Hotel del Coronado. Eyes spinning, right? Like a time machine, in photographic form. Love.
