Halloween at Maison Fleurie

NO GHOSTS, JUST GRAPES: A getaway to Northern California wine country is highly textured and plenty atmospheric any time of year, but come the fall, when air-briskness is afoot and the vine leaves are going golden, the texture gains even more texture. Maison Fleurie, which describes itself as a purveyor of "French Country Romance" -- check out that exterior for confirmation -- is near all that atmos and all those golden leaves.

OCT. 31-NOV. 2: The Yountville inn is offering a Halloween package which, conveniently, happens over Halloween night, a Sunday, and runs through the following Tuesday. Guests will receive 20% off their room (and that's any room in the inn, so the variety is nice), plus a bakery treat, plus wind-down wine and apps, plus bfast. There isn't any traditional ghouly stuff afoot, if you think from the package name there might be, but again, check out that exterior. That looks like autumn in building form to us. We think there is Halloween-type magic to be created there, and not just the bobbing plastic ghost kind.
