Worth the Drive: Palm Springs Wild West Fest

Worth the Drive is NBCLA's twice weekly look at nearby getaways

Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, NBCLA's Worth the Drive takes us to...

Palm Springs Wild West Fest: Because our year could use a serious dose of yippee-ki-yay-ing right about now, and merely wearing boots or pressed denim isn't cutting it.

Dates: Friday, March 12th through Sunday, March 14th

What's happening: Three days of kicking up heels in various forms courtesy of PRCA Rodeo, a Cowboy Ball, Fiesta del Charro, Cowboy Church, concerts, Mutton Bustin' and the Western Design Center.

Western Design Center: Few rodeos out there have a place nearby where you can go shop for your home and wardrobe among "top couturiers." The design fest will showcase boot makers like Tres Outlaws from El Paso, and Chatsworth's own Silver King Silversmiths. We're thinking big belt buckle, and one of those old-school lamps with a leapin' bronco on the shade. American Cowboy is the host of the Vendor Village.

Stays: Four hotels in the Palm Springs area have perk-packed rodeo packages going; overnights include the Spa Resort Casino (which is pictured), the Rivera, the Renaissance, and the Palm Springs Travelodge.

Swinging our lasso over... The Trail's End package at the mid-century'd-out Travelodge.  It's $159, which includes one night, two rodeo tickets, two Cowboy Ball entries (note that the ball is on Friday night).

Yee-haw: Right?
