You + 632 Minutes of Movie Magic? Has a Ring to It

It's the 10th anniversary of a Frodo-fab epic.

It's true: 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the release of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." Some wags, upon hearing that, may weakly kid that it cannot be a decade later, since they haven't finished watching the notably lengthy trilogy yet.

To those wags we say this: Step away from the terrible thrall of Sauron. Do not gaze into the eye. Done? Done. Phew.

American Cinematheque wants to mark this auspicious year, and they want to do it with all 623 minutes of the trilogy, all played back to back (well, probably with bathroom/snack breaks between each film). This is happening on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre, and someone better arrive as Gollum. Just remember the loincloth.

Our favorite minute of any of the films: When those big ladders go up during the Battle of Helm's Deep. How great to see this scene played large again (it's in the second film, "The Two Towers," but then you totally know that). And what minute does Brad Dourif slink on-screen? Let's pause to think, with admiration, of his skittery performance.

Granted, "Fellowship" was released near the end of 2001, so we aren't quite at the anniversary yet. But it took Frodo and Sam a long time to meet their goal, so we should definitely be inspired and start the celebrations now.

Because soon, very soon...
