Five Northern California high school stoner buddies are widely credited with creating the shorthand slang for getting high nearly 50 years ago.
Mark Gravitch, Larry Schwartz, Dave Reddix, Steve Capper and Jeffrey Noel now serve as 4/20's unofficial grand masters.
It all started with a crudely drawn map purported to show the location of a secret pot patch near Point Reyes National Seashore. They dubbed themselves "The Waldos," a term coined by comedian Buddy Hackett to describe odd people.
They never found the marijuana, but the code they used to organize their secret meet-ups has stuck. Below, see what the Waldos are up to now, five decades later.
