Mexico opened Group F play with a stunning 1-0 victory over World cup defending championship Germany Sunday in Moscow.
Hirving Lozano scored from 14 yards out in the 35th minute to give Mexico the lead, setting off a raucous celebration in the stands. He took a pass from Javier Hernandez and crossed up Mesut Ozil to score his eighth international goal.
But even before the goal, the atmosphere was electric at the stadium as fans gathered for one of the most highly anticipated match-ups of the group stage.
