Man Killed, Woman Injured in Long Beach Shooting

One of the shooting victims died at the scene, Long Beach police said.

A man was killed and a woman was taken to the hospital following a shooting in Long Beach on Wednesday.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to a shooting call in the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue around 4:35 p.m.

Two shooting victims — an adult man and an adult woman were found outside of a residence.

The man was determined dead at the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. The woman's injuries appear to be non-life threatening, police said.

"It's just baffling. You just really don't know what to say about something like that," the victim's cousin Anh Caldwell told NBC4.

Caldwell identified the man who was shot and killed outside his apartment as her cousin, a father of 5.

She described him as "a teddy bear."

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear, but witnesses described hearing gunshots and then chaos.

The gunman called police, confessing that he had just shot two people, officials said. The shooter was taken into custody a few hours later.
