More than 20,000 Southern California Edison and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers were affected by power outages due to a massive rainstorm that moved through Southern California on Sunday.
On Sunday, around 10,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers were affected and about 12,000 Southern California Edison Customers were experiencing outages throughout SoCal as of late Sunday evening.
On Monday, 7,700 LADWP customers remained without power out of the utility's 1.4 million customers.
Earlier in the day, tree branches fell onto a distributing station that serves portions of Van Nuys and Panorama City, knocking out power to at least 1,000 customers in the area. Power was restored in this area around 1:45 p.m., according to LADWP.
Other outages were reported in Los Angeles (4,194), Orange (6,563), Riverside (305), San Bernardino (1,011) and Ventura (304) counties, according to Southern California Edison.
During times of severe weather, dried palm fronds, tree branches and other debris can fall and make contact with power lines which frequently causes outages.
LADWP is working to restore power to affected customers “as quickly and safely as possible,” the utility company said in a news release.
