14-Year-Old Boy Shot, Killed in Harbor City Shooting

A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday afternoon in Harbor City.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead following the shooting about 5:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of Anaheim Street, near 261st Street, according to Los Angeles police Officer Sal Ramirez.

"It was a lot like a machine gun," Javier Sanchez, a nearby business owner, said. "They pop like popcorn."

No details were immediately available about what led up to the shooting and no suspect information was provided.

"It's actually somewhat unique in that we don't have information," LAPD Captain Gisselle Espinoza said. "We're canvassing the area and we're talking with potential witnesses and hopefully we'll get something from that."

Anaheim Street was closed between President and Western avenues because of the police investigation of the shooting, according to a report from the scene.
