17-Year-Old Teen Shot to Death in Lincoln Heights

A 17-year-old boy died after he was shot in Lincoln Heights Sunday, police said.

Adrian Shije of Alhambra was found with gunshot wounds near Avenue 28 and Barranca Street shortly after 2 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Shije was taken to LA County-USC Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the LAPD.
Police have not identified a suspect.

Witness Paul Casas said Shije was walking when he got into an argument with the occupants of a car.

"Next thing you know, the guys in the car came out and they shot him a few times," Casas said.

Detectives say they have some leads but need want witnesses to come forward.

The slaying is part of an ominous trend citywide. After more than a decade of decline, violent crime is on the increase. Felony assaults are up 25 percent and robberies are up 18 percent.

Capt. Martin Baeza says murders in the Hollenbeck area are down 50 percent from last year.
