The stretch of the 241 toll road in Orange County that was closed due to the Canyon Fire 2 is expected to partially reopen by Friday afternoon.
The road, which has been closed in both directions between the north end of the 91 Freeway and the Santiago Canyon Road/Chapman Avenue exit, is tentatively expected to reopen by 2 p.m., according to the Transportation Corridor Agencies.
Fire officials are inspecting the severity of the damage to determine the cost of repairs and how long it will take to have the road open. They are expecting to have crews work around the clock to have it reopen as quickly as possible.
The Canyon Fire 2 broke out on Monday as a wind-driven brush fire and quickly expanded to reach 8,000 acres at its peak. The devastating fire destroyed 13 homes and prompted mandatory evacuations for residents.
