3 Rescued From Bungee Ride at Ventura County Fair

Three people were rescued Wednesday evening after they became stuck on a bungee jump ride at the Ventura County Fair.

Initial reports stated that one person was hanging upside-down from the ride around 8 p.m. The 19-year-old bungee jumper hung upside down for approximately 20 minutes before the Ventura County Fire Department were able to free him with a ladder, officials said.

Two other people were stuck in the basket attached to the crane, but later rescued. A harness attached to a rope system enabled each man to climb down safely.

"The Ventura County Fair thanks the Fire Department for bringing the fair guests down from the Bungee Jump safely last night," fair officials said in a statement. "We are thankful that there were no injuries."

The incidents took place on the first day of the fair, which will continue through Aug. 12.

The nature of the ride malfunction was not immediately clear.
