“Cat” Burglar Caught

Man suspected of stealing “Catwoman's” jewelry tries to sell items on eBay

A man suspected of stealing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from “Catwoman” actress Julie Newmar was charged Wednesday "with grand theft after the actress discovered the items for sale on Ebay," the District Attorney’s office announced.

"Robert Ouriel, 48 (dob 3-27-61), is due in Department 144 at Airport Superior Court on Thursday for arraignment in case SA073017, said Deputy District Attorney Jan Perlstein.

"Newmar discovered several items of jewelry missing from her West Los Angeles home between Oct. 25 and Nov. 3, 2008. She recognized three items for sale on Ebay earlier this year.

"Ouriel, an acquaintance of Newmar, allegedly shipped the items to an Illinois pawn broker, who later posted them for sale on Ebay. Ouriel was arrested Nov. 19 and released on $50,000 bail.

"If convicted, the West Los Angeles man faces up to three years in state prison," Perlstein said.
