Homicide Investigators Probe Fiery Crash With Dead Man Inside

The man who's identity has yet to be released was a father and was married, his death is currently being investigated.

A man was found dead Friday morning inside a burned-out vehicle in San Pedro and homicide investigators were investigating the cause.

Firefighters responded to a report of a car fire at 2528 S. Cabrillo Ave., near West 25th Street, about 4:45 a.m. and while extinguishing the fire discovered a person dead inside the vehicle, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

LAPD Capt. Jon Pinto said homicide investigators were at the scene to determine if there was any foul play.

The crash shocked neighbors, who described hearing what sounded like firecrackers.

"I didn't hear any screeching of tires, screeching on the ground, nothing like that," Gilbert Gonzalez said. "It was just a boom and a few minutes later another boom."

The man's identity was not officially released. Co-workers and friends said the man in the car was a father and was married.
