Gunman Opens Fire on Driver Performing Donuts in Anaheim Neighborhood

The overnight shooting led to a standoff early Monday during which authorities played an audio recording of the man's mother in an effort to convince him to surrender

A gunman opened fire on a driver performing donuts in an Anaheim neighborhood overnight, leading to an hourslong police standoff.

At about 3 a.m., the gunman came out of a house and fired several rounds, striking the driver, his car and nearby houses. Video from the scene showed looping tire mark patterns in the street.

The driver was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The injury is not considered life-threatening, police said.

At least one house was struck by gunfire.

Residents were told to remain in their homes as the overnight standoff continued into late morning. The subject was taken into custody at about 10 a.m.

Authorities played an audio recording of the suspect's mother in an effort to get him to come out of the home.

He was described by authorities as a parolee.  Details about the individual's identity were not immediately available.
