Anaheim Man Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison for Deadly Drunk Driving Crash

A 24-year-old Anaheim man was convicted of two felony counts and sentenced to more than nine years in state prison after a drunk driving incident that killed two passengers, officials said Thursday.

Ryan Hernandez was found guilty of two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Hernandez had driven whlie drunk after a night of drinking at a Fullerton bar in February 2012 to celebrate his friend's birthday, police said.

While driving home on La Mirada Boulevard in Buena Park, Hernandez struck a raised median in the center of the road and crashed into a light pole, officials said.

Two passengers -- Jose Hernandez and Everado Zuniga -- were pronounced dead on the scene, while a third refused medical attention.

During the sentencing Thursday, the mother of Jose Hernandez "delivered an emotional impact statement to the court," describing her incredible pain and lack of motivation after his death in the incident, according to the statement.

Ryan Hernandez will serve nine years and four months in state prison, officials said.
