O-conomy: Rush to Trademark Name of Prez-Elect

    Dozens of aspiring entrepreneurs have filed applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office hoping to trademark parts of the president-elect's name.

    Can president-elect Barack Obama help you turn a profit?

    Yes, he can.

    Dozens of entrepreneurs hoping to cash in on the 'Obama' brand have rushed to apply for trademarks incorporating part of the president-elect's namesake in products ranging from stuffed toys to frozen veggies, the Smoking Gun reported.   

    The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office received a number of applications from individuals asking to name stuffed toys after the former senator with monikers such as "Bearak Obama" and "ObamaLlama." One applicant filed an application for fresh and frozen vegetables to be called "Broccoli Obama.".

    Requests for T-Shirts and novelty items with the slogan "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da O-ba-ma" and "Who's Your 'bama Now?" were also filed and Hawaii resident Ronald Jacobs put in a request for "Obamaland" two  days before the Nov. 4 election, hoping to use the name to market educational materials.

    Some creative types have even used filed requests to use acronyms of the president-elect's surname like "Officially Bridging America Motivating Americans and "Our Best Answer For Managing America."
