Gunman Taken Into Custody After Firing Shots at Escort's Vehicle: Police

A man who fired shots into a car barricaded himself inside an East Hollywood apartment complex for several hours Thursday morning after a confrontation with an escort, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a man shooting into a vehicle at about 4:45 a.m. near the 1200 block of Edgemont Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police said a female escort was dropped off at the suspect's apartment but called her driver back about 15 minutes later after "things weren't going well."

As the woman got into the car, the suspect, later identified by police as Robert Talamantes, followed the woman and fired several shots, striking the vehicle once. The escort nor the driver were injured.

The armed man then went into the apartment complex where he was holed up for several hours.

About 25 residents were evacuated from the building.

A SWAT team assisted during the standoff and the suspect surrendered to police shortly before 9 a.m. Talamantes faces several charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
