Robbers Armed With Handguns, Rifle, Stun Gun Attack Residents in Panorama City Home

A group of robbers entered a Panorama City home Thursday and assaulted at least one of the residents inside before taking off with some of family's possessions, police said.

The family said they believed they were targeted because they are in the jewelry business. The home invasion occurred around 2 a.m. in the 8000 block of Broadleaf Ave., said an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's Mission Division.

The home invasion involved about seven intruders armed with rifles, stun guns and handguns, according to reports from the scene.

Police said the suspects "beat up" at least one of the residents inside the home and that person suffered minor injuries. Another resident was reportedly shocked with a stun gun and that three residents were taken to hospitals for minor injuries.

It wasn't immediately clear how many people were inside the home, but it was reported there were children sleeping inside while the adults in the home were either held down or attacked. One resident armed with a handgun opened fire on the intruders, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone was struck by gunfire.

The suspects allegedly took safes, purses and jewelry. The robbers were wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing.
