Arrest Made After Alleged Venice Windshield-Smashing Spree

Police said the suspect lives in the area where the crimes occurred.

A man who has allegedly been on a car windshield-smashing spree in Venice for the last few days was arrested early Wednesday morning, police said.

Investigators said the man, who lives in the area, smashed at least 22 windshields in the Venice area starting Jan. 17, but that more reports have been coming in so that number is likely to go up.

Cars that had broken windows were parked near Venice Beach on Electric, Brooks, Dudley, Vernon and Paloma avenues and Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released, but he does have a prior criminal record, police said.

After a cluster of five smashed windshields were reported, police said they realized they were related and quickly focused on the suspect.
