Beating Death, Carjacking of Man Outside Home Investigated

Dario Rosas parked his 1997 Toyota RAV4 outside his home in the 11300 block of Acala Avenue on July 18 just before 11:30 p.m.

Authorities continued to investigate the beating death and carjacking of a 57-year-old man who was attacked outside his home in San Fernando last week.

Neighbors said it wasn't unusual for Dario Rosas to leave the keys in the ignition of his running 1997 Toyota RAV4 while he opened the gate to his home to pull his SUV in to park.

On July 18, at about 11:30 p.m. when Rosas returned home from one of his two jobs, he was attacked and his car was stolen.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said he heard screaming and ran outside in the dark to find Rosas bleeding out onto the pavement.

"He was just grasping for air," the neighbor said. "He was out of it already and I guess his body was just grasping for air to survive."

Rosas was taken to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

His car was found in Panorama City and impounded for evidence.

According to the LAPD the only suspect description available was that the attacker was a man.
