Body Discovered in Southbound Lanes of 710 Freeway

A person was found dead Thursday morning in the southbound lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Compton, police said.

The California Highway Patrol received a call at 1:16 a.m. about a possible pedestrian down on the freeway at Alondra Boulevard, according to CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig. The Compton Fire Department discovered the body.

It wasn't immediately known why the person was on the freeway but investigators determined the person was hit by at least one vehicle, Kravig said.

Several vehicles stopped but there was no description of the vehicle that hit the person, Kravig said, adding that the crash was not labeled a hit-and-run.

A SigAlert was issued, and all lanes of the southbound 710 freeway were closed at Alondra Boulevard for the investigation, except the No. 1 lane.
