Skeletal Remains Found in Calabasas

Human skeletal remains were found Wednesday on state park land in Calabasas.

Caltran workers discovered the remains about 9:30 a.m. along a hiking trail in the 25100 block of Calabasas Road, according to the sheriff's department.

It was not known if the remains were those of a male or female, according to the sheriff's department, which had reported preliminarily that a man's body was found.

Information was not immediately available on the cause of death, or whether foul play was involved.

The discovery comes less than three months after a father of two was shot in Malibu Creek State Park while camping with his daughters June 22

The shooter was never captured in the death of 35-year-old Irvine resident Tristan Beaudette. There is no known connection between Beaudette's death and the discovery of the body Wednesday.

After Beaudette's death, sheriff's officials said they investigated six other reports of shootings or calls about possible gunfire occurring near the park going back to November 2016.

Since Beaudette's death, sheriff's deputies have responded to at least nine reports of gunfire in the area.

NBC4's Gordon Tokumatsu contributed to this story.
