Burglar Who Sexually Assaulted 7-Year-Old Girl in Her Home Remains on the Loose

Security footage shows the man climbing up on a gas meter and into a second floor apartment on the 6300 block of Reseda Boulevard in Reseda on June 6, 2014

A burglar who sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl in her home is still on the loose almost a year later.

Security camera video shows the man climbing on a gas meter and into a second floor apartment in  the 6300 block of Reseda Boulevard in Reseda on June 6 at about 1 a.m.

While the family was inside, he sexually assaulted the girl in her bedroom then stole cash, jewelry and other items. The youngster shared the room with her 4-year-old brother.

"It's very disconcerting to know that your children may not be safe in their own bedrooms at night. That's an awful feeling," Det. Ninette Toosbuy, of the Los Angeles Police Department's Sex Crimes Division said.

No arrests have been reported. Investigators do not have a detailed description of the attacker, who they said is between 18 and 25 years old.

"We have had various leads that we've been working on, but nothing concrete at this point," Det. Toosbury said.

The family moved out of the apartment within days of the attack, however residents are shocked such a crime took place in the area.

"(It's) kind of shocking, (I'm) kind of surprised. I felt this is not that kind of area. It's usually a quiet, low-key area with a lot of kids," neighbor Lee Cration said.

"These people need to be punished, need to be jailed basically… It's sad," resident Mustafa Haidari, who has a 4-year-old daughter, said.
